Abstract

Women and Status in The Timurid State
The status of women in the Timurid State established in Transoxiana was based on Turkish cultural heritage much before Mongolian traditions. In the Timurid dynasty, women played a key role in society, particularly due to the importance of genealogy and political marriage. Women who were on a campaign with the ruler during war time hosted ambassadors and gave invitations in times of peace. In addition, one of the most important duties of the wives of the rulers was to raise young heirs. This issue was the most important issue for the state, specifically for Timur. The power of Timurid women absolutrly did not come from the dynasty or politics. They also played an important role in participating in art as the patron of the shrines and religious order.
