Abstract


Timur’s Conversation with The Scholars in Aleppo and Damascus in his Military Campaign to Syria
Timur was one of the most prominent leaders in history giving importance to science and scientists besides his military success. Timur, who often met with the scholars in the capital city Semerkand liked to discuss with them, contiuned this application in the cities he conquered. He met with the scholars in Aleppo and Damascus which he conquered after his military campaign to Syria, he asked them questions especially related to the conflicts between Hz. Ali and Muaviye and the killing of Hz Hussain by Yezid. Well-known historian and sociologist Ibn Haldun was among the scholars with whom Timur conversed in Damascus. In his conversation with Ibn Haldun, Timur requested him to give a detailed report about the geography and people in Magrip, then Timur got Ibn Haldun’s work translated into Mongolian language. Timur, who wanted to make Semerkand a center of science, took the scholars from the countries he conquered to the capital city, contiuned this application in Syria. When he returned Semerkand he took the leading scholars with his company.
