“Abdals” As a Social Group in Adana / Ceyhan Folk Culture
Abdals are Turkmen communities that live in many parts of the country as nomads or residents in a scattered state and make a living by performing many crafts such as smithery, polishing, basketry and circumcision, especially as musicians. Life conditions that changed from past to present, change of production, technology etc. Although some of these professions have disappeared for reasons such as, Abdals in Adana / Ceyhan have taken part in the community life with these activities in the past and formed an important part of the folk culture. During certain months of the year, they usually lived in tents outside the settlements and lived a nomadic life. These Abdals are known for their work. Those who play drums, clarion, basketry, smithery and polishing, those who circumcised have met the needs of that period and filled an important gap in the conditions of the day. In this article, in the light of the information collected from source people living in Isalı, Tumlu and Selimiye of Ceyhan in the past, the crafts of Abdals as a social group, their functions in the wedding tradition, entertaining and educational qualities, their dresses, their appeal forms. life details will be tried put forward.
