Abstract

The Classification of the Dede Korkut Stories in The Form of Folk Stories: Hüseyin Mehemmedhanî and His Works
The Dede Korkut Stories, either all or some of them, have been versified by various poets in different places of the Turkish world in the form of folk poetry or modern poetry. Although all of the stories (each called boy originally)have not yet been versified in Turkey, the Iranian-Turkish poet Sehend versified all of the 12 stories in the modern poetry style and in the epic form. In recent years, Hüseyin Mehemmedhani Güneyli, another representative of the Iranian-Turkish poets, classified all of the Dede Korkut Stories in the form of modern folk stories. He wrote the prosaic parts in the oral expression style of the ashiqtradition, and the poetic parts in the types of koshma and gerayli both belonging to the ashiq poetry as well. With this work, the Dede Korkut Stories have been included in the ashiqs’ repertoire of folk stories like Kerem&Asli, KaçakNebi and Köroğlu. Some ashiqs of Tabriz-Karadagh interpret them as folk stories in weddings and ceremonies. Muhammedhani, with this original and other works of his, has both introduced new tastes to the folk literature and proved his expertise in the field.
